Labor keep us safe - net zero by 2035

This week we’ve seen the release of the long awaited National Climate Risk Assessment, and within days Labor will release their updated 2035 climate targets.

We know the risks of inaction - and it’s clear that Labor knows too. This week we’ve seen the release of the long awaited National Climate Risk Assessment, and within days Labor will release their updated 2035 climate targets.

We know the risks of inaction - and it’s clear that Labor knows too. If we stick to the current climate trajectory, our communities will be forced to deal with devastating impacts - from millions of people at risk of heat deaths, to flooding and displacement. Young people are on the frontlines of this crisis and will inherit the consequences of this decision.

Any decision on a climate target that doesn’t limit warming to under 1.5 degrees of warming is a reckless choice and an absolute betrayal to young people. This means we must set a target of net zero by 2035, with a strong action plan to get us there.

It’s time for the Albanese Government to step up and deliver on their promises. They have a choice to make - will they stand with young people and protect our future, or prioritise coal and gas corporation profits?

Labor keep us safe - net zero by 2035

The National Climate Risk Assessment makes the cost of climate inaction clear. But Labor needs a reality check. Real people’s lives and livelihoods are at stake - and young people will bear the brunt of it for decades to come. The next few days are our opportunity to turn up the heat on Labor and draw a line in the sand.

We know that stories and personalised messages are the best way to connect to decision makers.

Join hundreds of people across the continent in emailing your local Labor MP and/or Senators, and share your stories and concerns. Talk about what the climate impacts in your community look like, and urge them to set a net zero by 2035 target.
